According to a study published in July 2016 in drug discovery today about 20 to 30 percent of men are battling with the problem of premature ejaculation. Premature ejaculation(PE) is so common than most people think and it could be very embarrassing. It can be found in men of any age and could cause depression and low self-esteem. Ejaculation can be seen as premature if it occurs within two minutes of sex or if it can barely be controlled by the man. As a result of this, both partners are not sexually satisfied. It happens with minimal sensation or before the wish of the person.

Premature Ejaculation occurs sometimes as a result of erectile dysfunction (ED). ED is when the penis ejaculates on its own while in a flaccid state. This is mostly associated in men at their 60s. PE can occur as a result of anxiety. Sometimes it occurs when a man is about to have sex with a woman but just before penetration, he releases semen. Some men just at the sight of a naked woman that they tend to have been fantasising about they tend to release semen. PE is mostly rooted in psychological, emotional or physical issues.

Most times doctors recommend counselling as a remedy for PE. Your doctor might run series of test in other to eradicate any physical health related problems after which he might start considering emotional or psychological remedies. Your doctor might also want to invite your partner over to ensure your partner is not influencing it in any way.

Treatment and Prevention of Premature Ejaculation

Most time medications are not used to treat premature ejaculation, once you can learn how to relax when you are with the opposite sex or know how to use distraction technique. Distraction technique is when a person tries to think of something that is not sex related while having sex. This helps a lot to prolong ejaculation time. You can also learn how to use a condom or use the start and stop technique. Start and stop technique is when you stop when the sensation is at its peak and continue when it must have cooled off.

Other remedies that can be used to prevent premature ejaculation is the use of depression medications such as Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft.  You can use numbing creams such as lidocaine, emla etc. Numbing cream can be applied directly to the genitals to help control PE.
